Living Cultural Heritage
Woklapnica
The Woklapnica is a public community meeting held around Epiphany (6 January) to kick off the new year by review the past year. Once the local council chairperson or mayor has given their report, community matters are discussed publicly. In the 1950s, the Woklapnica only took place sporadically. Since the 1990s however, it has enjoyed renewed popularity in Lower Lusatia.
This is living cultural heritage that is characterised by its dynamism. This means that it changes, adapts and evolves in its practice and transmission over generations. This is how it is passed on and remains alive.
